History and Profile
The Schools Division Office (SDO) of Batangas City is the local arm of the Department of Education (DepEd) responsible for managing and supervising public and private elementary and secondary schools within the territorial jurisdiction of Batangas City. It implements national education policies, programs, and standards while addressing the unique educational needs of Batangueño learners.
Batangas City itself has a long educational tradition. During the American period, public education was expanded throughout the Philippines, including Batangas. In 1902, the Batangas High School was inaugurated, becoming one of the earliest public secondary schools in the province and laying the foundation for the city's educational development.
As Batangas City grew into the provincial capital and a major economic center of CALABARZON, the demand for accessible and quality education increased significantly. The establishment of the Schools Division Office enabled the effective administration of schools, teachers, learners, and educational programs in the city. Today, SDO Batangas City ensures the delivery of quality basic education through curriculum implementation, teacher development, learner support programs, school governance, and stakeholder partnerships.
At present, the Schools Division Office oversees more than a hundred public schools across Batangas City, serving thousands of learners from Kindergarten to Senior High School. It continuously promotes educational excellence through initiatives such as literacy and numeracy programs, school-based management, sports and academic competitions, Brigada Eskwela, learner welfare programs, and digital transformation efforts.
